Paisley was founded in 1995 by Tim and Stacey (Paisley) Welu with the introduction of the company's first product, AutoAudit^®. With the domain expertise of an auditor, Stacey developed AutoAudit to assist organizations with taking a holistic approach to managing audit productivity for greater business accountability. With the early success of AutoAudit, Tim and Stacey continued to work with visionary Fortune 500 companies to develop innovative audit, risk management and compliance solutions to meet world class audit, control and governance needs.

Their first risk management solution, Risk Navigator^®, was introduced in 2002 to support the business processes of operational risk management and other risk assessment groups. With the passing of the Sarbanes-Oxley act in 2002, many organizations were faced with new requirements for audit, operational risk and control. Paisley's solutions provided the features required by the market, and Risk Navigator quickly became the leading solution used to address the requirements of Sections 404 and 302. In 2005, Paisley released the first generation GRC solution that combined the functionality of audit and risk management on a single platform.

In 2007, Paisley again led the market with the software releases of Paisley Enterprise GRC^® and GRC on Demand^®. These comprehensive GRC solutions have six components built on a single central data repository—financial controls management, operational risk management enterprise risk management, internal audit, IT governance, and compliance. The components, designed to meet the unique needs of each GRC user group, share common functionality for risk assessment, reporting, and issue tracking while providing the ability to perform independent assessments. Paisley was acquired by Thomson Reuters on December 31, 2008.
